The National Commission on Recognition of Dental Specialties and Certifying Boards is inviting public comment on the following application that has been submitted for dental specialty certifying board recognition:

The American Board for Oral Medicine (PDF) is requesting recognition as the national certifying board for Oral Medicine.

Please take time to read the National Commission's Guidelines for Submitting Comments on Applications for Recognition (PDF).

Comment Period and Deadline

The National Commission policy provides that public comment on an application’s compliance with the ADA Requirements for Recognition of National Certifying Boards for Dental Specialists is to be solicited for a sixty (60) day period. Accordingly, written comments will be accepted through 5:00 pm (central daylight savings time (CST)) on January, 16, 2021

Any comments received after the 5:00 pm (CST) deadline on January, 16 2021 will not be considered by the National Commission.

Comments must be objective and pertain only to the applicant’s compliance with the Requirements for Recognition of National Certifying Boards for Dental Specialists. To better assist the communities of interest with interpreting the Requirements for Recognition of National Certifying Boards for Dental Specialists and providing comments on applications for recognition, the National Commission has designed a comment sheet that is posted next to the American Board of Oral Medicine’s application for recognition.

The National Commission will disregard comments that are not related to the Requirements for Recognition of National Certifying Boards for Dental Specialists. Comments that are not objective and/or include Protected Health Information (PHI) and/or Personally Identifiable Information (PII), or violate the American Dental Associations’ Principles of Ethics and Code of Professional Conduct, or contain unprofessional remarks will be disregarded. If the National Commission receives form letters with duplicate content signed by different individuals, the letters will be counted as one (1) letter signed by multiple submitters.

If a comment is submitted electronically, please do not send a hard paper copy of the comment to the National Commission office. Given the current pandemic, only comments submitted electronically will be accepted.

Comments should be addressed to Ms. Catherine Baumann, Director, National Commission on Recognition of Dental Specialties and Certifying Boards at:  nationalcommission@ada.org
