Botox and Fillers for Facial Esthetic Dentistry/Orofacial Pain

This course will teach the use of Botox and dermal fillers within the Virginia definition of dentistry for combined esthetic and therapeutic uses in the oral and maxillofacial areas.

SB 1539, permitting dentists to administer cosmetic botox is set to become law on July 1. However, dentists will not be able to administer cosmetic botox right away. The Board of Dentistry announced at its most recent meeting that they intend to send it to the Regulatory-Legislative Committee for consideration on how best to craft the regulations. It will then go to the full Board for review and approval before being noticed for public comment. This process could take 18 months - 2 years before final promulgation. In the meantime, dentists may not administer cosmetic botox until the final rule is published.
