Did you know that human papillomavirus (HPV) is the leading cause of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC)? There are no early diagnostic methods for HPV-related OPSCC, and treatment causes significant morbidity, contributing to the second-highest suicide rate among cancer survivors after lung cancer. As frontline providers in oral healthcare, dentists play a critical role in patient education and early cancer detection. But is there more we can do?
