VDH Letter on Dental Handheld X-Ray Exemption
Effective May 1, 2021 the Virginia Department of Health, Office of Radiological Health instituted an exemption from Virginia Administrative Code 12VAC5-481-1653 (2) (B) for the requirement of operators to wear personnel monitoring badges when using dental handheld x-ray equipment. However, all operators must continue to wear protective lead shielding when using a dental handheld x-ray unit.
This exemption shall expire upon the regulatory adoption of rules for the discontinued use of personnel monitoring and adoption of wearing lead protection when using dental handheld x-ray units.
