Virginia Board of Dentistry Votes on Screening for COVID-19
Virginia Board of Dentistry Votes that Screening Dental Patients is Within the Scope of Dentistry
The Board of Dentistry (BOD) held an emergency telephonic meeting on May 8, 2020. During that meeting, the BOD voted that screening dental patients for COVID-19 was within the scope of practice of dentistry. They indicated that dental practices must be able to identify COVID-19 infected dental patients for the safety of all patients and staff. Additionally, they agreed that dental practices performing FDA-approved and Emergency Use Authorized COVID-19 screening tests could be valuable to this effort.
