Volunteers Needed for HPV Community Panel Presentations
The Virginia HPV Immunization Taskforce (VHIT) is to looking for dentists, hygienists, oral cancer survivors, educators and others working in the oral health field to join their efforts to decrease HPV associated cancers in Virginia. Their goal is to assemble stakeholders throughout Virginia to build a cohesive, efficient and united group of partners; reduce the risk of HPV-associated cancers with the promotion and support of education, preventive services, and evidence-based interventions; increase vaccination rates; reinforce the use and accuracy of immunization data systems, and advocate for policies that favor recommended adolescent HPV immunization.
Among other projects, the Taskforce has been hosting viewings of the documentary, “Someone You Love: The HPV Epidemic” (trailer here: https://www.hpvepidemic.com/trailer) in local schools. Although this is a powerful and moving film, HPV Oral cancer is not included in this film. Therefore, VHIT is seeking dental providers to participate in these panels to reiterate the importance of the HPV vaccine as HPV Oral cancer prevention.
Upcoming panels are scheduled two months in advance (none are scheduled as of now). If you are interested in volunteering to be on one of these panels, please contact Sarah Mattes Marshall at mattes@vadental.org.
