This interactive course will explore the history of the ADA Code and discuss how it applies to a range of potentially challenging ethical dilemmas including among other topics: informed consent, taking a patients sexual history, and professionalism.

Instructor: Nanette Elster, Ethics Outreach Programs Manager
Department of Council on Ethics, Bylaws and Judicial Affairs
Nanette is the Manager for Ethics Outreach at the American Dental Association. She is an assistant professor at the Neiswanger Institute for Bioethics, Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. She holds a BA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a JD from Loyola University Chicago, and an MPH from Boston University. Professor Elster currently serves on the board of directors of the Chicago Center for Jewish Genetic Disorders, is on the board of the Alliance for Fertility Preservation is the Chair of the American Bar Association Special Committee on Bioethics and the Law and serves as the legal consultant to the Committee on Bioethics of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She has extensive experience in legal, public health and ethical issues. She speaks nationally and internationally and is the author of numerous articles on with a particular focus on the intersection of law and bioethics. Professor Elster is a co-author of ETHICAL DILEMMAS IN FERTILITY COUNSELING, which was published by the American Psychological Association in 2010 and was profiled as A Remarkable Woman in the Chicago Tribune.
