MOM Returned to Grundy for 15th Year

Jan 9, 2019

MOM volunteers traveled from throughout Virginia and as far away as New Jersey and Indiana to Riverview Elementary and Middle School this past fall provide dental care for those in need at the Grundy MOM project.  Many have returned year after year and watched the actual transformation of the wonderful town of Grundy.  Returning for the 15th year with portable dental equipment and the expertise of VCU’s School of Dentistry and Dental Hygiene students and other skilled volunteers, the conversion of the school cafetorium into a temporary dental clinic has become a recognizable scene.

Throughout that weekend 334 Southwest VA residents received dental procedures valued at $364,769 (that was on average $1,092 per patient in free dental care).  These patients received a total of 2,025 dental procedures which included exams, digital x-rays, cleanings, fluoride varnishes, fillings, extractions, root canals, full dentures, partial dentures, denture repairs, relines and adjustments.

Grundy MOM projects held since 2004 have provided 6,584 patients relief from the discomfort and embarrassment of dental pain.  The value of that donated care is now over $5.7 million.  We thank all of those involved who gave of their time and talents to make the 101st MOM project a success!
