VDA Member Spotlight: Dr. Luiza Kreuzer
Upon graduation, joining a few dental organizations seemed like merely another check mark on a successful career to-do list. As I gradually grew more involved with my local dental society I became so much more aware of the countless benefits the VDA has to offer its members. Through a wide array of educational resources, along with networking, fellowship and leadership opportunities, the VDA has exceeded my expectations while enhancing all aspects of my dental expertise. However, the most important benefit has been the opportunity to voice our concerns about current dental legislation to the general assembly.
Recently, I was asked to serve as a delegate the 46th annual House of Delegates meeting. This experience not only provided me invaluable exposure but enhanced my knowledge about the current challenges facing the dental profession. As I stood alongside the other committee members with my right hand over my heart; the American flag was rolled out down the aisle in the hands of one of our servicemen. While we recited “I pledge allegiance to the flag” it was then I realized that I was involved in something bigger than myself. In that very moment, I understood more than ever before the importance of the VDA’s mission, and that as a member, it was critical that I take a united stand with my colleagues to make a difference in our field.
The dental profession is on a trajectory of many changes. We need to be aware and well informed to make an impact. We also need a place (physical or virtual) where we can come together as one voice and one body, strong enough to have a significant impact that will lead to positive changes. This place for me is VDA – a place where I can make a difference not only for my career but for my patients, my peers and the generations of dentists who follow.
