Dr. Gary Ackerman consults with health care professionals nationwide on taxation, real estate, exit strategy and retirement planning issues. He earned his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia in 1981. Dr. Ackerman practiced small animal and exotic medicine and surgery in Virginia, and founded a practice that became a multi-doctor, multi-location group, which he transitioned in 2001. Dr. Ackerman’s numerous projects included: negotiating, due diligence and finalizing practice purchases and practice start-ups, planning and directing hospital construction and renovation, overseeing facility leases, supervising practice mergers, negotiating group transitions to a corporate buyer, assisting with structuring partnership, purchase and sale agreements in tax friendly manners, and planning all aspects of practice exit strategies and retirement income distribution.
Dr. Ackerman assists professionals of all types in business and real estate sale transitions, and he specializes in IRS Section 1031 real estate exchanges, Deferred Sales Trust installment sales, and taxation mitigation issues. In his planning practice he advises clients as to how to best mitigate taxes related to their investments and business, and how to defer or minimize taxes related to the sale of these assets. He is a licensed commercial real estate agent specializing in 1031 real estate exchange replacement properties and net leased properties. He is also a securities registered representative and investment advisor representative assisting clients in creating lasting retirement portfolios and income streams. He regularly works with accountants, attorneys, realtors, financial advisors, lenders and business brokers in 1031 exchanges and business sales for their clients, participating in over $250 million of tax advantaged transactions via 1031 exchanges and Deferred Sales Trusts.
