The Virginia Gazette (11/18) reports that the Lackey Free Clinic in Yorktown, Virginia has hired its first part-time dentist, who is now treating patients three days a week. The free clinic was able to hire the dentist as a result of funding from the Virginia Health Care Foundation.

The Small Business Administration (SBA) recently responded to an ADA request that the agency approach the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) about problems associated with a new rule that requires dentists, before they can prescribe medicine to Medicare patients, either to enroll in the program or officially opt out. SBA Ombudsman Brian Castro has told the ADA that he has asked for a “high-level review of the information you submitted and a response describing the results of its review.”

Jessica Park has been named as Interim Executive Director of the VDA Foundation by the Board of Directors. She follows Beth Vann-Turnbull, who is leaving her position as Executive Director to work with a housing organization in Henrico County.
"It has been an honor to serve the Virginia Dental Association Foundation over the past 18 months. I know I leave the organization in good hands with Jessica, Barbara Rollins and the VDAF Board," said Beth Vann-Turnbull.

The Dental Trade Alliance (DTA) Foundation awarded $193,924 in grants to provide funding for innovative oral health programs aimed at encouraging changes in consumer behavior, improving access and enhancing the efficiency of the oral health care system. Each of the following nine programs received as much as $25,000 in DTA Foundation grant funding.

The Tennessee Dental Association will join several other states in hosting the 2015 Ski and Learn Seminar at Big Sky Resort in Big Sky, Montana.  The meeting begins on Wednesday, March 18 and continues through Wednesday, March 25. Other state dental associations who have co-sponsored the trip include Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, Virginia and South Dakota.

This will be our eleventh consecutive trip to Big Sky. Nearly fifty dentists from nine states participated in the 2014 trip.
