Dr. James Stephens, California Dental Association President Reports:

"A recent decision by arbitrators will allow the arbitration to proceed despite a motion by Delta to dismiss it."

"The legal action was filed in August 2013 by CDA and several individual dentists challenging, in part, Delta’s attempt to change Premier provider agreements. Prior to the filing, CDA learned informally of a planned rate reduction of 8 to 12 percent."

The VDA informed members with a standalone email and in an electronic newsletter The Chatter back in April that regulations pertaining to sedation and anesthesia permits were published and would become effective on May 7, 2014.

The VDA's Position

Due to the resignation of an ADA Alternate Delegate after the deadline for publishing positions up for election in the Journal, there is one position available for which nominations will need to be made from the floor.  These will be made at the opening session of the VDA Business Meeting Thursday, September 18, 2014.

Dr. Maynard P. Phelps was appointed by Dr. Ted Sherwin, VDA president, to serve the first year of the two year term (2014-2015).  Nominations from the floor will be received for a one year term to complete the vacated term.

Washington – The U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments Oct. 8 in North Carolina Board of Dental Examiners v. Federal Trade Commission, a case in which the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit upheld an FTC ruling that the board violated federal antitrust law in attempting to preclude non-dentist providers from engaging in the sale of teeth whitening services.
