Dentists have until March 31 to purchase a reduced-rate license to legally show movies and other audiovisual programs in their waiting rooms and exam rooms.

Until March 31, the Motion Picture Licensing Corporation will be offering an Umbrella License to ADA members for $250. Dentists who purchase the license have access to a wide array of movies, popular children’s programs, educational documentaries and other audiovisual content to show in a copyright compliant manner.

A catalog of dental procedure codes, a visual tool for patient case presentations and a series of videos designed to aid patient education, are apps on sale in the ADA Catalog.

The searchable, easy-to-use CDT Code Check app for iOS and Android contains the most up-to-date CDT Codes, including 16 new procedure codes and 52 revised procedure codes. The app also features a list of new, revised and deleted codes so you can see exactly what was updated.

Polio. Tuberculosis. Whooping cough.

In the 20th century, thanks to vaccines and drugs, these diseases were under control in the U.S. But the needle is moving again on infections worldwide among certain thought-to-be-contained diseases. One of them is measles.

The first signs of measles occur typically in the head and neck region and in the oral cavity. But some dentists may not have had the occasion to actually see these symptoms due to years of successful control of the disease.

A final rule was published by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) in 2014 that requires practitioners who prescribe Part D covered drugs to be enrolled in Medicare or opt out for those prescriptions to be covered under Part D.  This means that neither the practitioner, nor the beneficiary submits the bill to Medicare for services rendered. Instead, the beneficiary pays the physician out-of-pocket and neither party is reimbursed by Medicare.
