A Teleconference will be held to share important information and resources with dentists to help them comply with the new requirement to enroll or opt-out of Medicare when prescribing drugs to patients covered by a Part D drug plans.

The Board of Directors Awards Subcommittee selects recipients for VDA awards which are presented at the Governance Meeting in September.  In order to select those who are most deserving of these honors, we would like to ask for your help in identifying potential recipients.  Nominations for awards may be made by individual members of the VDA or by components.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced today a special enrollment period (SEP) for individuals and families who did not have health coverage in 2014 and are subject to the fee or “shared responsibility payment” when they file their 2014 taxes in states which use the Federally-facilitated Marketplaces (FFM). This special enrollment period will allow those individuals and families who were unaware or didn’t understand the implications of this new requirement to enroll in 2015 health insurance coverage through the FFM.

A Virginia dental clinic that has provided free care to indigent people during more than 30,000 dental visits during the past eight years soon could be shuttered due to a lack of funding.

Community Dental Clinic, which opened in Martinsville, Va., in August 2006, has provided more than $6.7 million in donated services to people who go there because they can’t afford to pay for dental care in private dental offices.

Introduced in the Governor’s budget, Medicaid coverage for pregnant women was approved by the General Assembly.  The program took effect March 1, 2015 for pregnant women who are 21 and over and enrolled in a Medicaid and FAMIS.

VDA News

Effective July 1, 2015, dentists who dispense controlled substances in Schedule II (Percocet, Vicodin), Schedule III (Tylenol with Codeine), or Schedule IV (Valium, Xanax) must begin reporting the drugs dispensed to the Prescription Monitoring Program within 7 days of dispensing.  The reporting requirements in the Code of Virginia can be found by clicking HERE.
